'Bateaux Mouches in Paris' by K.J.S.Chatrath
People going on a visit to Paris are advised to take a boat ride in the Seine river. These sight seeing boats in the Seine generally known as the Bateaux Mouches.
The term is a registered mark of the Compagnie des Bateaux Mouches (http://www.bateaux-mouches.fr/en), the well known operator of the boats in Paris, founded by Jean Bruel. However, this nomenclature is commonly used generically to refer to all such boats operating on the river within the city. Bateaux Mouches , literally mean "fly boats" ("fly" meaning the insect); Another backgrounder is that these were originally manufactured in boatyards situated in the Mouche area of Lyon.
Since the Seine is centrally situated in Paris, a boat tour covers a great deal of the city. Both the Left Bank (Rive Gauche) and the Right Bank (Rive Droite) are visible from the boat. Passengers can see, among other sites, the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Alexander III Bridge, the Pont Neuf (the New Bridge), the Orsay Museum, the Louvre Museum, Les Invalides and Napoleon's burial site. A ride costs Euro 13,5 (13.5) for an adult.
Interestingly, now one can order an Indian Menu meal while taking the ride. Of course for this a minimum of 60 seats have to be booked and the cost of meals is extra. See http://www.bateaux-mouches.fr/en/peniches-paris/indian-menu-62.html for details.
