Buying French Rafael fighter jets may be all right as we do not manufacture such planes in India, as yet. Need of seeking assistance in running high speed trains too may be conceded as France is a pioneer in Trains a Grande Vitesse (TGV) which attain a speed of 320 kms an hour (The current TGV world speed record is 574.8 km/h (357.2 mph), achieved on 3 April 2007 on the new LGV Est).

But is planning a good railway station such intricate rocket science that Indians can not do it. Of course what Indians can do with rockets has been ably demonstrated by our Mangalayaan.

We talk about 'Make in India' and we express diffidence even in planning and sprucing up a railway station? No, even the francophile in me does not accept that.

Please give our world class scientists, engineers and architects a chance to show their prowess.

And one does hope that the Ludhiana railway station building, which was built in 1870, is not messed up in the name of renovation.
